Hello Every One,

We had a very successful hike on Saturday November 20, 2004. People in attendance were Jay, Alvaro, Diana and Nuria.

Saturday was a unique and I should say fulfilling and beautiful day. Though the weather was not favorable, I found the hike beautiful and peaceful. We visited Swindler cove, a new park up by Dyckman street, 200th street, near the east end of Manhattan. The New York Restoration Project has a special program, and presented this program to Jay, we were all interested in it. When we got there they gave us a brief tour around the park--then they told us what we had to do. They gave Diana and I the job of cleaning up all the waste in the area, so we did that. Alvaro and Jay volunteered to clean up the bottles , boards, styrofoam, light bulbs and other floating litter out of the marsh grasses. We also saw some species like the "Russian elm" a non-native tree, planted in the area to create a mini forest in the park, now called Swindler Cove.

Take Care all YouthCaners,

Nuria and YouthCaN planning committee!
