| September Hike This hike was up to Anthony's Nose. It was short and cold. Most of the time it was steep but I made it. We did water testing on a pond that was on the top of Anthony's Nose. The result was that the PH=5.0 which is on the Acidic Side. Once we all came back down we also did water testing on the Hudson River right behind the Manitou Train Station. The PH came out to be 8.0. When we were on the top of the Anthony's Nose we did some Landscape painting. That was fun. It got to cold so we took a break and decided to play a game to keep us warm. Then we went back to do more landscape painting. I hope you enjoy my painting. That the best I can do. Wileyda Cardona USA |

| It was my first time hiking with YouthCaN. Our goal was to reach the top of the mountain, and on the way to test the water PH and examine different plants and animals. We met at the Grand Central at 8:15. Later we took the train to our hiking place. We were walking for two hours until we reached the top. And as I said before in Our Goals, we also accomplished water testing. Some people found very different plants. We saw all kinds of birds after we got to the top. We decided to rest a little bit. The view was beautiful; the air was fresh and it was sunny. Then we started playing hide-and-seek. It was really funny. We also drew landscape pictures of what we saw. A little bit later, we went back. It took us another 2 hours to get back to our station and wait for the train. I really enjoyed the hike and people. I had a really great time and hope we have more hikes like that. Valentina |

-Report- I was very grateful to YouthCaN for a chance to enjoy the hike with them. It was a good experience for me. It's always very healthy to go out from the city and to communicate with the nature. Very often we just forget about our environment and how it's important for all of us. This trip had remind me of it. We spent the whole day outside, in the mountains. We had a lot of fun and we had experienced a lot of new things. One of this things, that we did was a test on a "pH" of water. Test shows that in the top - water is much worse for using than in the foot of the mountain. Also we had found a few mushrooms and discovered many different kinds of the leaves, which means that it's a mixed forest (have many kinds of different leaves). If to pay a little attention to the nature, you possibly could know about the weather that you should expect. We've seen that every leave turned upside-down, it's mean that the winter is gonna be cold. Then, when we got to the top of the mountain, everyone had draw a picture, probably it wasn't a pictures of what we've seen with our eyes, but emotions that we've feel. After that we've spend 2 hours there, and then it was time to go back. Maria Valiavko. |

| My trip to Manitou New York started with a quick breakfast and rushing to 42nd street. Once there I realized I had no idea where I was going so I took a cab. GRAND CENTRAL STATION: November 24th 8:23am Once at grand central station I looked around and noticed the small groups of people and tried to look for people from YouthCaN. I stood off to the side when I felt Omar tap me. There on the opposite side of where I stood sat Wileyda, Valentina , Maria, and Jay. We waited a short amount of time and then hopped on the train at 8:53am. It took around an hour to arrive at Monitou a small quiet isolated town with around five red, white, and brown houses. The only visible form of life was the seven of us (including Bill, a botanist at the museum) and another small group of around five hikers. MONITOU NEW YORK 10:03am The trip up to Anthonys Nose itself took around two hours (considering that we had to hike up two miles). In between of the hike Bill and Jay stopped to explain certain things such as leaves and trees all which Bill specializes in. We saw Oak wood tree leaves, and turkey tail fungus among many others. Once at the top of Anthony we signed our names (at what I am calling the accomplished list) and we also flipped through the survivors... - Chris - |
