Hello Everybody
On March 23-24, Jay, Hans and I went on an overnight hike to the northern section of Harriman State Park. Our original plan was to go to the Catskills, but technical difficulties arose and we went to Harriman, which was still good choice. On Saturday, we took the train to Tuxedo Park and hiked northward. It was a windy cold day. We saw different types of Birds like Turkey Vultures and Woodpeckers. We got to our shelter in a couple of hours and hiked a good distance ( not too many rest stops) Our shelter was said to be near the highest point in the whole Park, and it was a really windy up there. As we set up our tents and looked for Firewood, Jay went off the Island pond in search for a area that is an exact replica of a Diarama in the Musuem of Natural History. Me and Hans were taking it easy playing Chinese Poker :) We ate pasta and Cup of Noodles for dinner, plus I myself ate Babyfood for dessert. We then built a fire to keep us warm and talked for a couple of hours. After that we slept in our tent nice and warm in our sleeping bags. The next day, we ate breakfast, packed our stuff and hiked on along the trail. We mainly travelled on the Ramapo-Dunderberg Red Blazed Trail for most of the trip. On the Yellow trail though, we met up with Jim and Charlie, our day hikers :) We hiked around Island Pond that day, connecting to a part of the Appalachain Trail. We ate Lunch at about 11:30 am and by 12:30 we were driving away back into New York City. It was a good hike, great workout for our muscles and a great way to get some stress relieved from our lives in the city. Our Next Hike is on Activity Day, a Day Hike to the Pallisades is one of the options on April 27 :) Take Care Everybody Alvaro Sierra YouthCaN Planning Committee |
