Students from Adma International School, Valley International
School and American Community School Hike the World!
At the Edhen Reserve in Lebanon!
The students at Adma International School, Valley International School and American Community School explored the biodiversity of the arid and moist habitats found in the Ehden Reserve including some of the cedar trees that Lebanon is famous for.

On the day after their hike they e-mailed us 26 photos and we called them on the telephone and they gave folks on the Discovery Room in New York a wonderful presentation about their trip. Thanks Emile and Eliane for that presentation!

A big hello from a BIG group of explorers in the Edhen Reserve in Lebanon!
Here are some notes from Rolo Annan and some of her students at Valley International School in Lebanon.

Hi everyone
It's Rola Annan from Valley International School-Lebanon. My students and I went on a hiking trip to Ehden reserve in Lebanon. The students have written down their essays but had a hard time to type and post them. This is because we had been working on our first project based learning chapter. We hope we can get some feed back from you. Students have read some of your messages but didn't have the time to reply. We will reply soon.

When we arrived to Ehden, the weather was cloudy first the sun started to shine. We saw a big brown eagle. We saw green, red and orange leaves of trees .The hike took 1 hour and 20 minutes. The distance was about 2350 m covering two trails. We also drank from a spring of water in the middle of the road. The highest point of our hike was about 300m. We had a lo t of fun and we learned a lot about the environment.

It has just finished raining and the sun had come out. We saw an eagle and a snake.
We couldn't see the eagle very well because it was far in the sky. The snake was brown like a tiger. Maple trees, three kinds of cedars, and pine and "Khoukh al Dib" which means in English "Wild Plumb", surrounded us. There were others that I don't know the name of the first was colored by green, yellow, red, orange and brown. We took two trails that were 2350 m long. The Highest point we were able to see from was about 300m. It was a great day and I wish we could have another hike soon.

Hike The World 1
November 10

On November 10th 2001, Valley International, Adma International and the American Community School participated in a hike at Ehden reserve. When we got there, we got out of the buses and we felt refreshed by the clean, purified air. The weat her was sunny and it was a little cold. We had been told that there were 26 kinds of animals and around 1000 kinds of trees but we only saw 3 of the animals and we were introduced to only 15 kinds of trees. 3 of the animals include the wild cat, an eagle and a snake. The trees include the oak, cedar, and maple. There was NO pollution except for a gun pellet from 2 or 3 years ago. The foliage was luscious green and also red, yellow, brown. The distance that we saw was approximately 15,500m and the distance of our hike was about 2350m (7833.3 in feet) The highest altitude of our hike was 2350 (units?) and the lowest altitude was 30. We were really glad to go on this hike. We are planning to have ano ther one in the coming days. Hope we will stay in contact.

Some of the Lebanese students are working on a database to enter the animals and plants that they have observed on their trips. I wonder if other students could do the same?

What have you seen on your hikes?
