Explore Laguna Coast Wilderness with us!
Community Day School of Santa Ana, California, USA
On Sept. 13, 2003 I went hiking with my school to Laguna Coast Wilderness. We went there so we could experience the outdoors and talk about all the animals and their natural habitats. When we went I thought it was going to be boring because we were going to be walking for a long time but after a while we saw some different kinds of stuff like plants and stuff like that. We saw a plant that smelled so good that some people were putting some on. It was called sage. I think he said that they used it for cowboy cologne.

We saw some rock that looked like a face. We saw some pieces of poop from all these different kinds of animals. We saw a lizard and some holes where tarantulas lived and the guy was poking it to see if the spider would come out but it didn’t. We saw a plant that smelled like sweat that plant smelled “NASTY” so I didn’t touch it. We were on our way to the van when we saw the ground faults and the plates that split apart. We saw some huge rock with plants and I think it was fungus. If I had to go back there I would probably go so I can learn more about the outdoors.

Saturday Hike

I really enjoyed the hike at Laguna Coast Wilderness. I got tired very fast because I had a long time without doing that much work on my body. But I had a great time and really enjoyed it especially when we saw the tarantula hole on the ground but it was cool. It was weird because the tarantula gets its hole with spider web all around it that’s how you know what a tarantula hole looks like. We actually saw two holes but the tarantula did not come out. If it did I would have gotten really scared. I also enjoyed the Casper Rock and also the lizard we saw on the way. It was on the big rock near the end of the hike and was kind of camouflage by the rock.

But other than that I really enjoyed everything especially the plants we learned about like the mustered plant. and the plant that smelled like maple syrup. It was nice. I had a great time and we wish we could go back but maybe to an easy place to hike.

Thank you,

One Day of Hiking

My first experience hiking was good. We saw all kinds of things: plants, spider holes, a crack or fault of an earthquake. The instructors were really nice people. I really had a good time because they explained all of the plants and what they were used for.

We got to see a lizard that was not that big but it was camouflaged. We saw tarantellas holes and we tried to pull it out but it wouldn’t get the stick so we just left it alone. We saw a plant that was a mustard plant. It tasted almost like mustard. Then we also saw a waterfall that was dry. It had no water. We saw the Casper rock that was sticking his tongue out. To close my paper I had a good day and I will try to go to the next field trip.
