| August 16 was a community restoration project at "Bolsa Chica Wetlands" in Huntington Beach, CA about 5 miles west of the school in Santa Ana. Restoration Days are every 3rd Sat of month This Saturday, students helped to water the native plants planted by other volunteers a few months ago. In winter, volunteers plant nataive plant seedlings and remove non-natives such as mustard - introduced by Spanish missionaries long away
Before starting, the coordinator gave an overview on the importance and scarcity of undeveloped wetlands. We participated with volunteers from Girl Scouts and individuals from 9 to 11AM. Afterwards the coordinators offered us watermelon, water and cookies. It was hard work and next time maybe we'll walk across the street and relax on beach. Lisa. |
