iEARN Egypt Second YouthCaN Conference

Through a dedicated group of iEARN students, teachers and
environmentalists, Youth Can Egypt is a unique opportunity to voice
students' opinions, solutions and concerns about their environment of
today and tomorrow. Over 50 presenters, 350 student-participants and
100 teacher- participants, iEARN Egypt Second Youth Can Conference is
a landmark in a long extended path of hope, clean environment and
empowered youth.


As there is a wide range of presentations and topics, the conference
theme in Egypt is not limited to 'Species becoming extinct due to human
abuse', as in other countries. However the conference theme is open to
recycling, vision pollution, digital divide, aviation flu etc. The Egyptian
conference tends more to reflect on 'Clean/Safe Environment for
Survival'.


Through the different iEARN environmental activities during 2005 –
2006, Youth Can participants in Egypt have:


- developed collaborative projects and educational authentic
materials with environmental focus

- maintained basic skills in multimedia technology

- found local and international resources, partners and networks in
their environmental focus through the iEARN international
community

- prepared for students' presentations during the Youth Can Egypt
conference and the iEARN International Conference

- met, discussed, and linked with environmental professionals and
experts in Egypt that can be of further assistantship for the
students in the future

iEARN Egypt has held its second annual conference named 'YouthCaN' which open up for the youth to express their care and awareness about environmental issues through innovative projects, awareness campaigns and sharing their experiences. Dalia Khalil who is supervising the conference mentioned that the students researched a number of important topics including Bird Flu, renewable energies, water as a strategic source for life and pollution. Dalia Khalil added that the conference attracted 500 students (males and females) and Professors from New Hampshire University in the US and the American University in Cairo. In the conference, stduents presneted their research projects.
