In collaboration with the City of Groesbeck, these students are working to "clean up" the town, along with key communities and business people. A recycling station is being developed, as well as beautification efforts are being targeted.

We will present a video documenting the ongoing effort of a community to maintain the cleanliness and quality of a street corner. We will also conduct an interactive activity that demonstrates how urban pollution affects the soil.

Energy Now and in the Future
High School for Environmental Studies, New York, USA

HSES students will demonstrate and display simple solar ovens and other alternate energy devices that they have constructed and will present their ideas on America’s energy future. Workshop participants will construct their own solar ovens!

Aberdare Youth Environment Project

The character of our valley has been heavily influenced by its coal-mining past and associated heavy industry. Since the mines closed, there has been a significant fall in population and the area continues to be blighted by large areas of former industrial land, some of it still contaminated.

What do we do with our trash?
Elementary Workshop Montessori School, Delaware, USA

Students are researching different types of trash and how they are recycled and the impact that it has. We are situated fairly close to one of 3 landfills in the State of Delaware and it is currently proposing to be allowed to enlarge its operation. We are planning to learn about the process and meet with our representatives and weigh in on this subject. The students will have prepared a slide show on what they have researched and we will have presentation about our efforts in Dover as well.

Raising Trout

Raising Trout: Students are in charge of regularly measuring samples of the fish, taking water quality tests, organizing the data, and keeping the tank clean. In the Spring, students release the trout into a stream north of New York City.

We will present a PowerPoint presentation to introduce our audience to our publication. We hope that members of the audience will join us by writing for next year’s Planetary Notions.

The Urban Divers Marine Conservation and Scientific Diving Inc.

Discovering what lives beneath the Estuaries of New York. This presentation will share the discoveries of student divers in the waters around New York City.

Beauty in the Beasts
The Elisabeth Morrow School, New Jersey, USA

Our students will illustrate terrestrial and aquatic indigenous animals of the temperate northeastern United States. They will present their illustrations and discuss the life histories of these animals: their physical description, habitat, range, feeding habits, niche, and value to the ecosystem. If there is time, the audience could sculpt these animals using "model magic" .

The Artist and the Environment

Artists have always been ahead of the game telling us through their artwork about the importance in protecting our environment. Learn who these artists/environment are, about many of their methods and techniques and do some statement making artwork yourself. Playacting, interviews and commercials will keep things lively and encourage you to let the artist in you create while getting your message out.
