Cities Near the Sea. - Video Conference

This is a collaborative project between two wonderful cities near the sea - St. Petersburg Russia and Amsterdam, Netherlands. The project concerns culture, history, nature and environmental problems of cities near the sea. We will present a video-conference about the environmental problems of the Baltic Sea. We would like more schools in cities near seas to join our project.

HP and iEARN’s Digital Cultural Exchange

Twelve schools from around the world have been selected to participate in the HP/iEARN Digital Cultural Exchange program. These schools created a photo essay titled “Global Tidings” using digital imaging equipment from HP to explore each of their countries cultures and their views on the environment.

Shoreline Restoration and water testing: Bronx River and NYC’s watershed. FULL
DeWitt Clinton High School and The Council on the Environment of NYC
DeWitt Clinton High School students have done shoreline restoration work along the Bronx River and will be doing erosion control work in NYC’s upstate watershed in May of 2003. They will present their work. Participants will learn how we tested the waters of the Bronx River through hands-on activities!.

Aberdare Youth Environment Project - Video Conference
Aberdare College, United Kingdom
Investigation of alternative uses for derelict and/or contaminated former industrial land. We are keen to examine ways in which facilities for young people and for the community as a whole could be provided as a sustainable development, perhaps showcasing environmentally sensitive design and energy management strategies. We'd like to exchange ideas with others involved in similar projects in other parts of the world and/or to stimulate others to consider the possibilities in their own localities. Learn more here!

Come explore the energy cycle! We will explore the flow of energy from the sun to both abiotic and biotic things. Learn about photosynthesis respiration and trophic levels (primary, secondary and tertiary consumers). Our activities will include role playing and an energy puzzle.

Trees, this amazing resource supplies an inexhaustible number of basic needs for both man and animal. We will look at many of these, examine the situation of trees in our world, our country, state and own backyard! Travel with our tree sleuths and learn how to change behavior in our daily lives and influence the behavior of others in a positive way. Participants will be involved in hands-on activities which include planting, art work and activist techniques. You will be the next tree expert ready to make a difference for the trees!

Spreading the Word--Conservation and Recycling
Ethical Culture Fieldston School and P.S. 7
Fieldston Lower School students continued their campaign to reach out to both the school and the community beyond its walls about conservation issues and recycling. As a result they met with students from Public School # 7 and decided to prepare lessons and activities they could shared with other students in their schools. Using resources from Project Learning Tree, Department of Sanitation, and Internet research, they expanded their own knowledge in their quest to share their interest in environmental awareness and conservation with others. They would like to share their project and resources with you.

Implementation of federal regulations regarding toxic waste cleanup has changed, with the polluters no longer responsible for the cleanup. This workshop will explore the consequences, using presentation format, audience participation, and a skit.
