YouthCaN Med 2011 

YouthCaN Med 2011 was hosted by the Hajj Bahaa Eddine El Hariri School on April 18th from 9:30 till 1:30 with the participation of approximately 100 students and teachers from 7 schools: The  American Community School , Adma  International School, Al Safir High School, Hajj Bahaa Eddine Hariri School, Tyre Public High School  and Ahliah School schools,  Notre Dame de la Paix (online participation).

MP Bahia Hariri honored the event and spoke about the importance to sustain the YouthCaN Med activities. She offered her support to students and teachers to expand the projects in Saida and its suburbs.  

The students presented workshops around the following topics: the impact of lead on the human body, saving energy, pollution and climate change as well as topics addressing arguileh (the water pipe), orange juice and the importance of taking action and learning from each others (GTP eco friendly school project).  Students held hands-on workshops: recycling computer materials and an Art Mural. 

The opening was lead by the HBS Ecology club Alumni, Zeina Hariri and Mohammed Hijazi. They prepared a short picture movie and the transforming impact of YouthCaN on their lives and how they grew with it.  It was very emotional.  This was followed by a word by Eliane Metni, iEARN Lebanon Coordinator with a thank you to the schools hosting YouthCaN Med and to the principal Mrs. Wadad El Nadiri.  Mr.  Mohamad Al Sououd, head of the Saida Municipality spoke about the environmental issues facing Saida and the importance of environmental projects. Adma International School (AIS) students presented a conflict resolution play, students of the Hajj Bahaa Eddine school presented a song, The Earth is my home.  

The day ended with a visit to the 17th century soap factory turned into a museum and a walk through the refurbished old souk to reach the Khan where MP. Bahia Hariri welcomed the audience to Saida and  distributed the certificates to students and participating teachers.
