Wave Hill, in partnership with MS/HS 368 in the Bronx, is currently seeking 5th 7th grade partners for its International Invertebrates Program for the 2001-2002 school year.
International Invertebrates - The Program goal of International Invertebrates is to connect two separate classes in different parts of the world (or different climates) to simultaneously study invertebrates, become "experts" on their local invertebrates and habitats, and then share their findings via e-mail and the Internet. The connection which is established will also ideally serve as a means of facilitating cultural exchange between the two classes.
Basic Program requirements include:
* Students should have access to computers and the Internet at least 2 times per week.
* Teachers and/or students should have an e-mail account accessible from school.
* Class curriculum should be able to incorporate the study of invertebrates and their habitats.
* Teachers must be able to commit at least 1 period per week for 6 to 12 weeks (November to May), to the exchange, and have principal or assistant principal support.
The project does allow flexibility in the planning process between the participating schools and teachers.
